SCRIPTED SERIES
WRITER/PRODUCER
Billie is a writer of dramatic scripted series and feature film. Her work is often thematically autobiographical in some way. She writes characters that don’t play by the rules, which have something to say, consequences be damned. They say, “Write what you know.” Billie’s work is an amalgamation of life experience and family relatives. She’s only just getting started dredging up the strange stuff.
Her recent pilot, “WEEKI WATCHEE ENCHANTED SPRING” is an anthology series that takes place in 1980 when a headless body turns up on a mysterious river thought to hold the souls of the dead. A spiky reporter is set on a collision course with her past when she must return home to her family’s aging roadside attraction to track an elusive serial killer. In following seasons, we travel back in time before the advent of the interstate to the heyday of Weeki Watchee, before it became a rusting relic on a Florida back road. In the prequel we explore the quirky family business connected to the enchanted spring. Here the past meets the present, and we learn the dark secret she’s so desperate to keep.
Billie was inspired to write the pilot, “EVERGLADES CITY” after exploring Big Cypress Swamp and a subsequent trip to Cuba. With the fall of Havana New Years Eve 1958, four acquaintances are inextricably bound by a fateful decision to flee Cuba on the wrong man’s boat. But after twenty-five years in hiding, they reluctantly reconnect hoping to find millions on the mobster’s boat long since scuttled in the Everglades. This heist-come-due drama follows a dual timeline where early 80s Miami stabs back into pre-Castro Cuba to reveal the perilous events that derailed their lives. Dredging up that history can’t buy back the time they’ve lost, but it could get them all killed.
Her feature film, “BLACK MONEY” is an international money-laundering thriller based on the true story of a floor trader lured to West Africa to move millions out of Cote d’Ivoire. The cocksure trader leaves the adrenaline junkie thrill rush of Wall Street and steps off the edge of the world. He’s a big fish being eaten alive in a small pond. His in-country contact on the scheme is the esteemed wife of an exiled financial minister who is forced to do the bidding of her ruthless husband while hiding in plain sight from a bloody new regime. With a quaking political landscape, the two must deliver the consignment to stay alive, but in life and death decisions, unlikely allies are duplicitous foes.
Billie is also an Executive Producer in True Crime documentary television working in development, production and post-production. In addition, she’s also produced a 12-part podcast debunking the conspiracy theory around the death of Princess Diana. Before finding her way to the crime genre, Billie worked as a story producer in unscripted television. Billie began her career in live television as a production manager and associate producer.
When not writing and producing, Billie is a Response Team volunteer for the international disaster relief organization, ShelterBox headquartered in Cornwall, England. She has deployed to disaster zones delivering aid, shelter and non-food items, helping families with basic survival needs. During her tenure with the NGO, Billie has deployed multiple times to the Philippines as well as Malaysia, Malawi, Columbia, Antigua and Barbuda, responding to both man-made and natural disasters.
